Warning: This is not your standard run-of-the-mill standup comedy show, but a full-on musical comedy spectacular live in concert. Performing songs from the hit album “Lion,” along with a few surprises, if you’re a fan of virtuoso musicians OR hysterical comedians, this is the show for you.
A self-described “musician trapped in the body of a comedian,” Stephen Lynch, a Tony nominee for his work on Broadway in “The Wedding Singer,” delivers a rock n’ roll comedy show unlike anything you’ve ever seen — at least certainly in Traverse City. His epic story songs lampoon daily life and pop culture in utterly uproarious and often “un-PC” fashion without sacrificing musical excellence. Lynch, along with his accomplished band and backup singers, including Courtney Jaye and Rod Cone, take on everything from acoustically-driven Americana to addictive rock.
He’s toured with some of the biggest names in comedy, including Lewis Black and the late Mitch Hedberg, and headlines his own shows around the world — so big he’s known as “the Beyonce of Scandinavia.”
Change things up and spend a night with the less serious (and mope free) side of music. I mean where else are you going to get to hear about bad tattoos, body hair, and Juggalos, all set to a lush musical backdrop. Lynch is truly in a class all his own.
Oh and it doesn’t hurt that he’s pretty easy on the eyes.
